In a world where sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) continues to plague countless lives, Nyaka is a beacon of hope and healing. Since the inception of its SGBV program in 2015, Nyaka has been at the forefront of providing comprehensive support to survivors, with an unwavering commitment to ending this pervasive issue. As of 2024, Nyaka's dedicated efforts have reached an astounding 1,279 survivors, offering them the care and resources they need to reclaim their lives and rebuild their futures.
At the heart of Nyaka’s mission are its four Healing Centers, strategically located in the Kanungu and Rukungiri Districts. These centers serve as sanctuaries for survivors, providing a safe space for recovery and a gateway to vital services. The Healing Centers offer emotional and psychological assistance, while also working closely with hospitals to ensure that survivors receive comprehensive medical care. Through this holistic approach, Nyaka addresses not only the immediate needs of survivors but also the long-term impacts of trauma.
One of the key figures in this journey of healing is Christine, a dedicated case manager at the Kambuga Healing Center. Christine’s work within Nyaka's SGBV Department exemplifies the profound impact of the support provided by the Healing Centers. Her commitment and compassion underscore the importance of having skilled and empathetic professionals guiding survivors through their recovery.
In addition to its ongoing support services, Nyaka hosts an annual walk to raise awareness and funds for its programs. This year, the walk will take place on July 19th, 2024, just one week away. The annual walk is a powerful demonstration of community solidarity and a testament to the collective effort needed to combat SGBV. Participants will come together to show their support for survivors and to advocate for a world free from violence and abuse.
The upcoming walk is an opportunity for everyone to join Nyaka in its mission. By participating, you can contribute to the cause and help amplify the voices of survivors. Together, we can make a difference and move closer to a future where everyone can live free from fear and harm.
Join us on July 19th, 2024, for Nyaka’s annual walk and be part of this crucial movement to end sexual and gender-based violence. Your support can help transform lives and foster a community of healing and hope. Together, we can make a lasting impact and ensure that survivors have the resources and support they need to thrive.
What a great story. We are so thankful for Nyaka being part of our community. It has helped us amplify the message of community development and awareness to conflicting interests that downgrade them.
