In the rural villages of southwestern Uganda, a remarkable story of strength and resilience is / has unfolded. Grandmothers, many of whom have lost their children to the HIV/AIDS epidemic are stepping up to care for their orphaned grandchildren. While the loss of parents to AIDS has placed a heavy burden on Uganda’s elderly, the Nyaka Grandmother Project has been a beacon of hope, providing these women with vital resources and opportunities to rebuild their lives and provide for their families. Established by Dr. Jackson Kaguri as part of the Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project, the Nyaka Grandmother Project is dedicated to supporting the grandmothers who are raising a generation of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
