While I pursued my own endeavors, my childhood friend took on the mantle of leadership, serving as a parish Chief tasked with ensuring tax compliance and accountability. Grandmothers, many of whom have lost their children to the HIV/AIDS epidemic are stepping up to care for their orphaned grandchildren. While the loss of parents to AIDS has placed a heavy burden on Uganda’s elderly, the Nyaka Grandmother Project has been a beacon of hope, providing these women with vital resources and opportunities to rebuild their lives and provide for their families.
